PGI Harvest Summary May 21 2021

The US Hard Red Winter Wheat harvest gained another 5% harvested (in Texas) this week (totaling 10% harvested all located in the coastal areas of Texas), but is now on hold due to rain (see 7-day precipitation map below).  As was reported last week, other areas of the southern and central Great Plains are generally a week to 10 days behind normal development for this time of year.  As also reported last week, wet and cool conditions in those areas have led to the development and spread of leaf and stripe rust, however, repeated rain events continue to keep inoculum in the lower canopy of the crop and off the flag leaf (for now).
